Ceramic Heat Emitters have been developed and adapted from the original technology designed to make space heaters for heating homes. This method was also used for the warming of young farm animals and chicks in the form of a curved ceramic panel. These heaters were used by reptile keepers, with large enclosures, for some time until their availability dwindled. These were replaced by the ceramic heaters we are more familiar with today.
The Reptile Systems Ceramic Heat Emitter (CHE) is a circular, hollow cast infrared lamp which contains a high temperature resistant heating element embedded within a specially formulated ceramic body.
Reptile Systems Ceramic Heat Lamps, like all our products, have been long-term tested at our large UK testing facility. They are exceptionally reliable and have a long lifespan, with many continuing to work perfectly for several years.
Ceramic Heat Emitters emit no visible light, making them perfect for night-time background heat, constantly maintaining ambient temperatures. They are designed to run 24 hours a day on a suitable thermostat. CHE produce nearly all their energy as far infrared; the heated element radiates to the ceramic through contact conduction, which then releases energy heating the surrounding air. This heat then warms the rest of the space using convection, like the way radiators work in your home. These can be used with an on/off Thermostat or a good quality dimming thermostat.
Reptile Systems Ceramic Heat Emitter is not just for use with reptiles, it can also be used to provide heat for exotic mammals and rearing chicks.
Three models available: 60w, 100w and 150w, all with a standard E26 fitting.
Always ensure that Reptile Systems Ceramic Heat Emitter is used in conjunction with a suitable ceramic holder such as our, black clamp lamps or rotating ceramic holder.
Frequently asked questions are:
What size CHE do I need?
This depends on the size of your enclosure and the background temperature you wish to achieve. We recommend you go an expert retailer and ask them for advice. Alternatively you can check out our Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and website for more information.
My CHE is cold?
These lamps are extremely reliable and last a long time, so it would be worth doing a couple of equipment checks first:
check the connections on the E26 fitting/clamp to ensure they have not been pushed down, ensuring the lamp can make a proper connection – if in doubt speak to an expert retailer for assistance.
Reptile Systems CHE has an attractive glossy black colour. Does that enhance performance?
Other than looking nice, the attractive glossy black colour has no real noticeable effect on performance. Care should be taken in purchasing unbranded or cheap electrical products and always check for a safety mark.
