Our single compact light units have been designed to bring a solution to a multitude of lighting challenges for both birds and reptiles.
All glass, mesh top enclosures have gained great popularity over the last decade. This is with good reason as they make great habitats for small to medium sized species and house countless bio active and planted biotopes. However, they do have their own set of problems when it comes to lighting your mesh topped enclosure. A wooden vivarium allows you to fix your lighting to the inside lid but mesh topped enclosures cannot offer this. Most lighting components are simply placed on top of the mesh allowing just as much light into your room as your enclosure, also leaving wires trailing in an unsightly mess and causing a potential trip hazard. The compact units we have developed fit neatly atop these types of enclosures allowing you a safe, effective lighting solution.
The Compact Lamp Unit have also proven to be a hit with bird keepers as they offer a variety of options for lighting and the provision of UV to indoor bird cages and aviaries.
The units themselves are of a rugged construction and are virtually unbreakable under normal conditions. The satin finished, heavy gauge, aluminium body is comprised of two interlocking extruded quadrants that fit together. These are locked in place at each end by a black, vulcanised plastic end cap. The end caps have been designed not only to take extremes of temperature, but also allow for maximum airflow, keeping the unit and lamps cool, which greatly extends their life. This high quality and eye for detail also extends to the internal parts of the unit. It has a one piece curved ‘honeycomb’ reflector, increasing light efficiency by up to twenty percent compared to a cheaper two-part reflector. Using this style of reflector can not only increase your light output, but the raised surface irregularities reflect light at many different angles allowing it to penetrate the mesh more effectively.
The position of the premium quality ceramic fitting, within the units, ensures that each lamp is positioned centrally on the reflector to maximize efficiency.
The Compact Lamp Unit is perfect for use with suitable Edison style (E26) screw end capped, lighting and LED lamps.
Reptile Systems/Bird Systems Compact Lamp Units are supplied as standard, with a strong metallic mesh guard offering the very best protection for your animals. This feature has been greatly received by snake keepers wanting to provide beneficial UV and extra lighting.
These units offer a secure lighting fixture for mounting vivarium lamps and bird lamps with a screw fitting. Supplied with several mounting options, these units are incredibly versatile and include a system that can be fitted to wire cages. It can also be surface mounted on any suitable materials, such as wood or plastics, using the correct fixings (not supplied). You can also angle the units up to 45° for directional lighting.
Compact Lamp Unit with maximum lamp rating of 12 inches long
Perfect for use with 3U compact UVB lamps or Compact New Dawn lamps. It will also house many other makes and models of compact lamps (see manufacturers specifications for details).
The single is supplied with an in-line on/off switch, whereas, the twin unit has two switches, one for each lamp.
The superior materials used to construct this unit guarantee it will not suffer from UV degradation or other issues associated with intense light damage.

Frequently asked questions
I have some bits of fixing kit left over, have I done something wrong?
Compact Lamp Units come supplied with multiple fixing options, therefore you will not necessarily need to use all of those supplied in the kit.
Unit does not work. Here are a couple of equipment checks that should be done in this case:
- Check the fuse
- Have you turned the inline switch on?
- Is the lamp working?
- Check the connections on the screw fitting to ensure they have not been pushed down and the lamp can make a proper connection – if in doubt speak to your retailer for assistance.
When installing lamps, into the Twin Compact Lamp Unit, some people find it easier to remove one of the mesh guards, install lamp, replace the mesh and then move onto the next, rather than removing both at the same time.
